Literally: After the fact.

Contextually: This refers to a stage where the person already performed a non-ideal action, and it is usually accompained by a leneint ruling.

Example: Ideally, when you go to the store, please buy me vanilla ice cream, but "BedeEved" if you already bought me chocolate ice cream, you don't have to throw it out, I'll eat it.


LeChatchila -

Literally: In the first place.

Contextually: This refers to the ideal ruling assuming the person didn't already perform the act, and it is usually accompained by a strict ruling.

Example: "Lechatchila," when you go to the store, please buy me vanilla ice cream, but if you already bought me chocolate ice cream, you don't have to throw it out, I'll eat it.
